My first Scalextric set Christmas present fun beyond all dreams!

Remembering my first Scalextric set

I will never forget my first Scalextric set it consisted of a large track, power supply, Chicane curves, barriers and two mini cooper cars red and yellow with a chequered top.

I recieved this Scalextric set by my mother one Christmas at the age of 9yrs old, my eyes lit up as I opened the Christmas wrapping to see the picture on the box, I was so excited I wanted to set it up and play with it straight away.

After building the track and clipping on the barriers I couldn;t wait to show my friends and to race the mini cars around the curcuit.

I would get the cars to broadside as they went around corners and one piece of track had a cross over where you would crash your cars if you didn’t speed up or slow down as 2 cars sped along a straght piece of track.

Myself and my friends would have great fun with this racing set toy for many years, we would swap cars, paint up old cars, make stadiums out of cardboard and put boxes under the track to make ramps that the cars would jump in the air then land and keep going.

Scalextric sets are still as strong today as they were so many years ago, I am sure with the popularity of motor sport such as Formula 1 and Rallying little boys eyes would light up the same way that mine did.

Over the years Scalextric sets have been released in many racing platforms, Formula 1, Rally Cars, Touring Cars, Bicycle racing, Karting and many more.

So if you are now a parent as I am and you are looking for a special gift idea, think of purchasing a Scalextric set it will bring Joy, excitement and most of all fun to the lucky child recieving it.

Tiny Tears doll first introduced in 1950, The Ideal toy Company bought the doll in 1968

Tiny Tears Doll

The tiny tears doll dates back to the 1950’s and she is still popular today.

Her distinguishing feature was her ability to shed tears from two small holes on each side of her nose when her stomach was pressed after being filled with water from her dolls baby bottle.

tiny tears doll 1950's

Tiny Tears Doll “Rock-a-bye” Eyes

In 1959 Tiny Tears acquired “rock-a-bye” eyes that slowly closed when she was laid horizontally and gently rocked.

Tiny Tears was sold in a pink-and-white checked dress or a romper with a baby bottle and a small pipe that blew bubbles when filled with a soapy solution and inserted into the doll’s open mouth.

Tiny Tears became one of the most popular dolls of the 1950s.

Her success was due in part to television ads featuring a young Patty Duke that aired on popular children’s shows such as the highly influential Ding Dong School with Miss Frances.

The Tiny Tears doll mold was sold to Ideal Toy Company in 1968.

Tiny Tears is still a popular doll today with little girls, she has now become more interactive with sounds and is able to wet, cry, and do what a real baby doll should do, be just like a real little baby.

Barbie doll

Barbie doll where she came from and how she inspires children all over the world.

Barbie doll

The Barbie doll received a dramatic makeover in 2016, the toy company Mattel revealed, as a new range includes three optional body shapes petite, tall and curvy as well as seven different skin tones and 24 hair styles.

Despite some minor variations, there has been little change in the size and shape of Barbie since the first doll launched in 1959.

The new range, which is made up of 33 different dolls, is the brand’s biggest-ever update.

Ruth and Elliot Handler founded Mattel Creations in 1945, and 14 years later, Ruth Handler gave the world the Barbie doll.

When asked her relationship to Barbie, Ruth simply replied, “I’m Barbie’s mom.”

The inspiration for Barbie came as Ruth watched her daughter Barbara playing with paper dolls.

Barbara and her friends used them to play adult or teenage make-believe, imagining roles as college students, cheerleaders and adults with careers.

Ruth immediately recognized that experimenting with the future from a safe distance through pretend play was an important part of growing up.

She also noticed a product void and was determined to fill that niche with a three-dimensional fashion doll.

Barbie’s full name is Barbara Millicent Roberts.

She has an on-off romantic relationship with her boyfriend Ken (“Ken Carson”), who first appeared in 1961.

A news release from Mattel in February 2004 announced that Barbie and Ken had decided to split up, but in February 2006, they were hoping to rekindle their relationship after Ken had a makeover.

Barbie has had over 40 pets including cats and dogs, horses, a panda, a lion cub, and a zebra.

She has owned a wide range of vehicles, including pink Corvette convertibles, trailers, and Jeeps. She also holds a pilot’s license, and operates commercial airliners in addition to serving as a flight attendant.

Barbie’s careers are designed to show that women can take on a variety of roles in life, and the doll has been sold with a wide range of titles including Miss Astronaut Barbie (1965), Doctor Barbie (1988), and Nascar Barbie (1998).

Mattel has created a range of companions for Barbie, including Hispanic Teresa, Midge, African American Christie, and Steven (Christie’s boyfriend).

Barbie’s siblings and cousins were also created including Skipper, Todd and Stacie (twin brother and sister), Kelly, Krissy, and Francie. Barbie was friendly with Blaine, an Australian surfer, during her split with Ken in 2004.

From her early days as a teenage fashion model, Barbie has appeared as an astronaut, surgeon, Olympic athlete, downhill skier, aerobics instructor, TV news reporter, vet, rock star, doctor, army officer, air force pilot, summit diplomat, rap musician, presidential candidate (party undefined), baseball player, scuba diver, lifeguard, fire-fighter, engineer, dentist, and many more.

When Barbie first burst into the toy shops, just as the 1960s were breaking, the doll market consisted mostly of babies, designed for girls to cradle, rock and feed.

By creating a doll with adult features, Mattel enabled girls to become anything they wanted to be.
